LLB021: Create TruFlat Bookmarks
Engrave and cut a repeatable bookmark design, then finish the batch with colorful tassels.
MISSION OBJECTIVE
Create Five Finished Bookmarks
Use the TruFlat material to engrave and cut a repeatable bookmark design, then complete each piece with a tassel. The goal is clean edges, consistent holes, readable artwork, and a product that is ready to package or add to a reader gift set.
PRE-FLIGHT CHECK
Prepare the Material
Inspect
- Confirm the finished surface is clean
- Check the sheet for damage or debris
- Identify the grain or preferred design direction
Hold Down
- Keep the sheet flat against the bed
- Use pins, magnets, or another laser-safe method
- Keep hold-downs clear of the tool path
Layout
- Use the provided bookmark file
- Confirm the tassel hole size
- Leave enough space between pieces for clean cuts
BASELINE PROTOCOL
Make the Bookmarks
Prepare one test design
Start with one bookmark and use readable artwork with enough margin from the cut edge and tassel hole.
Focus and frame
Focus at the top of the finished surface. Frame the full artwork and cut path before starting.
Engrave the artwork
Run the engraving operation first. Check contrast and detail before cutting the material.
Cut the outline
Run the outer profile and tassel hole. Do not remove the sheet until you have confirmed that every cut released cleanly.
Inspect and clean
Remove loose residue and inspect the finished coating and edges. Avoid aggressive cleaning that could damage the prefinished surface.
Batch the remaining four
Once the first bookmark passes inspection, duplicate the layout and produce the remaining pieces with the confirmed settings.
Add the tassels
Choose tassel colors that support the artwork or customer theme. Photograph the group as a coordinated set.
TESTED STARTING SETTINGS

TROUBLESHOOTING
Common Failures
The cut does not release
Do not move the material. Refocus if needed, then add another controlled pass using the same alignment.
Edges are heavily charred
Reduce heat input, improve airflow, or increase speed. Confirm focus and bed condition before rerunning.
Engraving is too light
Adjust power or speed in small increments. Confirm that the surface is in focus and clean.
Small pieces shift
Engrave before cutting and improve hold-down. Keep the sheet in place until every operation is complete.
